Telehealth for Audiology

.Care offers virtual benefits and more opportunities to audiologists to continue delivering their services to current and even new patients.

Audiology is a service traditionally performed in-person but in order to stay connected with patients and minimize gaps in care, many audiologists are looking into telehealth. It may be difficult to imagine how telehealth can be implemented into a practice that depends on patients coming into the office.

While it may not be possible to convert all hearing healthcare services to telehealth (or tele-audiology) at this time, now is the time for clinicians to adopt remote strategies. These crucial tools, such as video calls and practice management software, are within the reach of every audiologist.

Some services you could provide with .Care include (but are not limited to):

  • Pre-screening evaluation
  • Hearing aid programming
  • Hearing aid troubleshooting
  • Hearing loss coaching

Benefits of .Care (a tele-audiology tool)

You can treat more patients, expand your reach and target more areas.

One study showed that more than half of all U.S. counties do not have any audiologists.

Tele-Audiology is not necessarily limiting.

There are several ways you can administer your services over a telehealth video call. For example, hearing aid manufacturers are also transitioning to a more virtual approach, so hearing aid programming can be done remotely through the hearing aid app.

Tele-Audiology helps patients who have limited mobility or cannot drive.

A lot of older patients must rely on others to get them to appointments. .Care can be set up for them and give them more flexibility.

Ease of use.

.Care allows you to see more patients and process payments ahead of visits securely, ensuring you are paid for services.

People are shown to be receptive to Telehealth/Tele-Audiology.

In a recent audiology study, 20 participants with dementia were fitted at the university clinic with hearing aids, which were paired to a smartphone app, managed by their caregivers. The results showed that caregivers rated the participants “general comprehension” as 4.5 on average on a 5-point scale in the telehealth period, compared to 2.7 when they weren’t using the remote service. Caregivers said the remote service decreased their stress and improved the patients’ “alertness” and “awareness.”

Less overhead – Efficiency saves money!

.Care has several features, one key feature being EHR/OMS integration so your records will automatically update when a patient makes an appointment, submits a form or reschedules their appointment. They will also receive automated text, email, & voice appointment reminders.

Audiology must transition into a virtual service model. Healthcare (as a whole) is expected to be more flexible and adaptive to environmental changes and patients’ needs. Without .Care to address your patients, your practice is at risk of falling behind and cannot continue forward with what is required to remain operational.

Don’t get left behind; embrace .Care as a virtual extension of your regular business practices.
